Using Computer Algebra techniques for the specification, verification and synthesis of recursive programs

چکیده
We describe an innovative method for proving total correctness of tail recursive programs having a specific structure, namely programs in which an auxiliary tail recursive function is driven by a main nonrecursive function, and only the specification of the main function is provided. The specification of the auxiliary function is obtained almost fully automatically by solving coupled linear recursive sequences with constant coefficients. The process is carried out by means of CA (Computer Algebra) and AC (Algorithmic Combinatorics) and is implemented in the Theorema system (using Mathematica). We demonstrate this method on an example involving polynomial expressions. Furthermore, we develop a method for synthesis of recursive programs for computing polynomial expressions of a fixed degree by means of “cheap” operations, e.g., additions, subtractions and multiplications. For a given polynomial expression, we define its recursive program in a schemewise manner. The correctness of the synthesized programs follows from the general correctness of the synthesis method, which is proven once for all, using the verification method presented in the first part of this paper. © 2008 IMACS. Web Service Choreography Verification Using Z Formal Specification
Web Service Choreography Description Language (WS-CDL) describes and orchestrates the services interactions among multiple participants. WS-CDL verification is essential since the interactions would lead to mismatches. Existing works verify the messages ordering, the flow of messages, and the expected results from collaborations. In this paper, we present a Z specification of WS-CDL. Besides ve...
متن کاملOn Integrating Deductive Synthesis and Verification Systems
We describe techniques for synthesis and verification of recursive functional programs over unbounded domains. Our techniques build on top of an algorithm for satisfiability modulo recursive functions, a framework for deductive synthesis, and complete synthesis procedures for algebraic data types. We present new counterexample-guided algorithms for constructing verified programs. We have implem...
متن کاملA Verification Environment for Imperative and Functional Programs in the Theorema system
We present a verification environment for imperative programs (using Hoare logic) and for functional programs (using fixpoint theory) in the frame of the Theorema system (www.theorema.org). In particular, we discuss some methods for finding the invariants of loops and of specifications of auxiliary tail recursive functions. These methods use algorithms from (polynomial) algebra and combinatoric...

متن کاملAlgebraic principles for program correctness tools in Isabelle/HOL
This thesis puts forward a flexible and principled approach to the development of construction and verification tools for imperative programs, in which the control flow and the data level are cleanly separated. The approach is inspired by algebraic principles and benefits from an algebraic semantics layer. It is programmed in the Isabelle/HOL interactive theorem prover and yields simple lightwe...
